Toppled concrete pole shuts down I-285 westbound lanes following crash

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Sandy Springs Police is working a crash along Interstate 285 Thursday night that helped bring down a concrete pole.

Officers were called to the single-vehicle crash before 8:40 p.m. by Northside Drive. Police said the crash caused a large concrete pole to come down across the highway. Minor injuries were reported in the crash, authorities did not clarify if anyone was hurt by the toppled pole.

A photo from the scene shows first responders inspecting the pole that seemingly crashed onto a guardrail. The pole was shattered along multiple lanes, images show.

All westbound lanes along this portion of I-285 were blocked off as of 9 p.m. About half an hour later, authorities were able to reopen at two lanes and were working to clear the roadway.

Police did not offer any other details on the crash or how many people were in the vehicle.
