Atlanta opens emergency warming centers as frigid weather moves in

The city is also providing transportation to the warming center.

ATLANTA — The City of Atlanta is opening an emergency warming center as temperatures drop in the area. 

According to a statement from city officials, the center opened on Monday night at 8 p.m. through Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. They will do the same for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. 

11Alive's Weather Team predicted a wedge of cool air, taking temperatures back to the upper 40s and low 50s on Monday. By Tuesday, chilly temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 40s before dipping into another cold night with a low of 37.

The warming center is set to be located at 3404 Delmar Lane NW, which is the location of the Old Adamsville Recreation Center.

City officials also said the city is providing transportation for folks. People can head to the Gateway Center at 275 Pryor Street SW at 8 p.m. for a ride to the warming center.

Three warming centers will also open again Tuesday in DeKalb County, officials reported in a press release. The centers open at 8 p.m. and can be found at the fire stations listed below.

  • Fire Station 3, 100 N. Clarendon Avenue, Avondale Estates, GA 30002
  • Fire Station 4, 4540 Flakes Mill Road, Ellenwood, GA 30294
  • Fire Station 6, 2342 Flat Shoals Road, Atlanta, GA 30316
