ATLANTA -- A man is now safe after being trapped while driving into rising flood waters along Peachtree Creek, Wednesday.
Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesperson Cortez Stafford said that they got the call in the afternoon that a man had apparently driven into standing water on E Beechwood Road off Northside Parkway. But soon the waters began to rise and left the motorist stranded sitting on top of his car.
Members of the station 11 water rescue team were able to deploy a raft to get to the man and get him safely to dry land.
As waters rise during heavy rains, authorities routinely remind the public to avoid roads covered in water since it can often be much deeper than it seems. It also only takes a surprising small amount of water to sweep a vehicle off the road.
