Funnel Cloud spotted over Banks County during Friday tornado warning

BANKS COUNTY, Ga. — An ominous sight over Banks County Friday evening - a funnel cloud.

Around 3:30 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Jackson and Banks Counties. The warning was dropped for Jackson County, but it still produced a funnel cloud over the other county.

Several photos and videos show the clouds appear to twist and rotate.

Right now, there is no indication that the funnel cloud ever touched the ground.


4:00 P.M. | The tornado warning has expired for Banks County.

3:51 P.M. | The NWS says the storm that prompted the warning is weakening below severe limits, and is exiting the warned area. Therefore, the warning will be allowed to expire at 4P.M.. However heavy rain is still possible with this thunderstorm.

3:35 P.M. | The tornado warning for Jackson County has been canceled. The tornadic thunderstorm which prompted the warning has moved away from Jackson County, therefore, the warning has been canceled, the NWS says.

3:30 P.M. | A tornado warning has been issued for Jackson and Banks counties until 4:00 PM. At 3:34 PM, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Homer, moving east at 15 mph.

Locations impacted include Homer, Maysville, Pinefield Crossroads and Banks Crossing.
