A Worth County man climbing on the roof of his shed during Tropical Storm Irma fell through the roof and died Monday afternoon, authorities said.

A spokesperson with the Worth County Sheriff's Office told 11Alive's Jerry Carnes after the man noticed damage on the roof of the shed, he used a ladder to climb onto the rooftop. At the time he climbed onto the roof, the wind gusts were peaking at 69 mph.

When his wife went out to check on him, she said she found him laying on the roof beneath some debris. The initial report was that he had fallen through the roof and was pinned inside, but authorities told 11Alive News this was not true.

When emergency crews found the man, they were unable to revive him.
