MABLETON, Ga. -- Weather officials haven't yet confirmed that the storm passing through Mableton spawned a tornado. But in the aftermath on Wednesday afternoon, residents are convinced.

"I was scared, I was real scared," Willie Henderson said. "It had to be a tornado."

Whatever the final word, the storm was strong enough to wreak havoc in the area downing trees, power lines and more.

Near the intersection of Mableton Parkway and Lee Industrial Boulevard, winds blew a large metal rough from the parking lot of a QT convenience store.

That store is one of more than 3,000 customers who reported being without electricity at the time according to Georgia Power.

Another included a nearby daycare where employees said they heard - and felt - the storm roar through.

"It started getting dark, the rain started coming down and the leaves were blowing but the children were all asleep so only the staff saw it," Elite Academy Day Care worker Robyn Cook said.

There were 40 children inside the daycare when the storm passed through. Luckily none were hurt.

For many, the skies themselves told one part of the story.

"It got dark here across the sky then there was a big flash and the cops came; the ambulance," Sylvia Hernandez said.

The aftermath, including downed trees for miles around the intersection - not far from Six Flags over Georgia - told the rest.

"I jus thread a bunch of wind and heard all kinds of corrosion and loud sounds," witness Joe David said. "We walked outside and saw all this. It's pretty bad."

While the destruction in Mableton has not yet been confirmed as the result of tornado, elsewhere in north Georgia, funnel clouds and tornadoes have been confirmed.

Right now there are three tornadoes that were confirmed by radar. The National Weather Service will later go to the scenes where these storms touched down to further confirm the storms.
