As winter weather moves through the metro Atlanta area, 11Alive will be working to bring you the latest updates.

1 PM: It will be dry overnight Saturday into Sunday. Any snow or moisture left on the ground will develop slick spots again on Sunday morning. Bitter cold wind chills in the teens are expected during the overnight and early morning hours Sunday. Sunday's morning temps will be around 26. It will get up to 43 in the afternoon.

9:45 AM: About 278,000 customers without power across Georgia at this point.

7:45 AM: About 220,000 customers are without power across Georgia at this hour according to Georgia Power and Georgia EMC.

7:10 AM: A Winter Weather Advisory continues for much of north Georgia through 10 am with up to another inch of snow possible. Slick spots are possible on metro area roads, while slushy spots can be found on secondary streets and roads. Skies are expected to clear through the day, and it's expected to remain cold, with highs nearing 40 degrees.

7 AM SATURDAY: Power outage update: More than 20,000 Georgia Power customers in metro Atlanta are in the dark this morning, out of 70,000 Georgia Power outages statewide. Another 130,000 Georgia EMC customers have also lost power.

9:55PM: Power outage update: As of 9:56, more than 83,000 Georgia Power customers are without power. Check here for a map.

More than 52,000 Georgia EMC customers are also without power, statewide. Here's a map of that.

9:50PM: Police believe a man has died after coming into contact with a live wire. Here is that story.

8:50PM: Georgia Department of Transportation crews said they will begin plowing I-75, I-85 and the top end of I-285.

:Due to crews plowing the roadways along with deteriorating road conditions we’re urging motorists to stay inside," GDOT tweeted.

7:50PM: Tens of thousands of Georgians remain without power late Friday. As of 7:45 p.m., about 52,000 Georgia EMC customers had no electricity. (Click here for current outages)

Georgia Power said 49,857 of its customers had no power as of 7:48 p.m. (Click here for the outage map)

7:30PM: Woodstock Police are warning drivers to stay off the roads.

"ALL roads are QUICKLY deteriorating and becoming impassable. Please stay off the roadways as people are becoming stranded," they wrote at 6 p.m.

7PM: Snow continues to fall over much of the metro Atlanta area.

A winter storm warning is in effect in Habersham, Rabun and Stephens counties until noon.

6PM: Georgia Department of Transportation officials continue to urge drivers to stay off of the roads as temperatures are expected to fall below freezing overnight. Click here for the updates.

4:30 PM: Publix stores will close between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. today and reopening between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Saturday.

4:15 PM: Five Douglas County buses with a total of 8 students on board remain on the road.

4:00 PM: Snow totals come in from around North Georgia. In Blairsville, snow is at 6.3 inches and in Blue Ridge, snow totals are at 6.0 inches.

3:59 PM: A second round of snow is making its way through metro Atlanta - particularly in the perimeter as well as Cobb and Gwinnett counties outside and north of the perimeter. Confirmed snowfall is showing as far north as Rome, Georgia though tower cams show it isn't sticking. Further to the east, in Athens, Georgia, the system appears to be dropping rain right now but no flurries.

3:12 PM: EMC is reporting that 19,000 customers are without power in the north Georgia area due to the winter weather.

3:05 PM: Warming shelters are starting to open up around metro Atlanta. So far, Central Park Recreation Center on 400 Merrits Avenue NE and three are opening in DeKalb County: The Fire Station 3, 100 N. Clarendon Ave., Fire Station 6, 2342 Flat Shoals Road and Fire Station 21 1090 Crown Point Parkway.

2:35 PM: A winter storm warning has been issued for the mountains of northeast Georgia and the central and southern mountains of North Carolina until noon on Saturday. A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions are occurring. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

2:32 PM: Power outages have been reported by customers all throughout north Georgia.

There are 471 active outages according to the and there are 31,924 customers who are being impacted. The last update from their maps were updated at 2:29 PM.

2:28 PM: According to FlightAware, all inbound flights have an average delay of 4 hours and 31 minutes and all departures are seeing delays averaging at 1 hour and 10 minutes. Flights that are inbound are being held until at least 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8.

DeKalb-Peachtree (PDK) Airport will be closed until Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

1:58 PM: DeKalb County Courthouse, including Clerk of Superior Court, will be close at 2:00 PM for the remainder of the day on Friday.

1:43 PM: Cobb County Schools reports that some buses are having trouble passing on the roads.

1:42 PM: Clayton County Public Schools canceled all sports activities for Friday. All athletic events will resume on Saturday at noon.

1:31 PM: Henry County Schools is canceling all extracurricular activities until Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

1:30 PM: Fernbank Museum of Natural History is closing at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The are also canceling all activities. They are expected to reopen at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

1:09 PM: City of Atlanta has opened an emergency warning shelter at the Central Park Recreation Center, located at 400 Merrits Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30308. The shelter will remain open until further notice.

12:58 PM: Busses are reportedly stuck on roads in Douglas County Schools. Cars are also stuck in ditches in the county.

12:49 PM: Zoo Atlanta is closing at 1:00 p.m.

12:45 PM: Atlanta Public Schools will dismiss early. Elementary schools will dismiss at 1:30 p.m., high schools will release at 2:30 p.m., and middle schools will release at 3:05 p.m.

12:45 PM: Fulton County offices will close at 1:00 p.m. After school activities are canceled

12:30 PM: City of East Point non-essential operations, such as Customer Care, Parks and Recreation, and our Jefferson Station building will close at 2:00 p.m. All non-essential employees in those operations can leave at 2:00 p.m.

12:09 PM: City of South Fulton Schools are closing at 1:00 p.m. Offices will reopen with regular hours on Monday Dec. 11.

12:00 PM: DeKalb County Public Schools are dismissing early. Elementary schools are dismissing at 12:00 p.m., high schools are dismissing at 12:45 p.m. and middle schools are dismissing at 1:30 p.m.. All staff is leaving at 2:00 p.m. and all evening activities are canceled.

12:00 PM: Gwinnett County Public Schools is dismissing one hour earlier than usual today. All afternoon and evening activities for Friday, Dec. 8 are canceled.

11:47 AM: Hall County Schools will be closing one hour early. All extra-curricular activities, including practices, games, and other events, are canceled through noon Saturday.

11:45 AM: Fulton County Schools will dismiss early. High Schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m., middle schools will dismiss at 1:15 p.m. and elementary schools will dismiss at 2:00 p.m.

Parents who have students in after-school programs (PrimeTime, etc.) can pick them up as soon as possible. All athletic events and other extra-curricular activities occurring on Friday are being cancelled. High school students have permission to leave campuses now, and parents are permitted to pick up their students at all schools.

11:15 AM: Carroll County Schools are dismissing students early. Elementary Schools will dismiss students at 1:00 p.m. High Schools will dismiss students at 2:15 p.m. Middle Schools will dismiss students at 2:30 p.m.

10:45 AM: Forsyth County Schools is releasing early. Release times vary for elementary, middle and high school students. Click here to see when your school releases. All after school activities for Friday and Saturday.

10:38 AM: Cherokee County Schools are dismissing immediately. All parents may pick up their students immediately. Student drivers will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m. Buses will begin leaving campuses at 11:00 a.m. for high schools, 11:45 a.m. at middle schools and 12:30 p.m. for elementary schools. After school programs are canceled. Woodstock administrative offices are closing at 12:00 p.m.

10:37 AM: Oak Mountain Academy in Carrollton will close at 11:00 a.m. All evening activities will be canceled.

10:32 AM: Whitfield Academy will close at 12:00 p.m. today. All evening activities will be canceled.

10:30 AM: Douglas County middle and high school students will be released at 12:00 p.m. Elementary students will be released at 1:00 p.m. Buses will run normal routes at these earlier times.

10:25 AM: Douglas County Courthouse will be closing today at 12:00 p.m. out of an abundance of caution. Non-essential employees are being released early

10:02 AM: Bartow has decided to close, now. "Due to changing weather conditions in Bartow County, we are releasing students and staff at all elementary, middle, and high schools now. All bus routes have now stopped. We ask that parents pick up their children at this time. Again, this applies to all elementary, middle, and high schools."

10:00 AM: Kennesaw State University will close starting at 12:30 p.m.

9:53 AM: Chattahoochee Technical College will close at noon due to weather conditions.

9:45 AM: Cobb County Schools will have early dismissal. High Schools will dismiss at 11:30 a.m., middle schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. and elementary schools will dismiss at 1:30 p.m.. All after school activities and programs are canceled.

8:26 AM: Bartow County Schools has announced they will be releasing their students early. All elementary schools will be closing at 11:30 AM and all middle and high schools will be closing at 12:30 AM.

And Marietta city schools have canceled all evening activities.

9:54 PM: A winter storm warning has been issued for White, Lumpkin, Dawson, Towns, Union, Gilmer and Fanin Counties. The warning is in effect from 5 a.m. Dec. 8 to 7 a.m. Dec. 9.

3 PM: A winter weather advisory has been issued in the following counties and remains in effect from 5 a.m. Dec. 8 to 7 a.m. Dec. 9.:

Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dawson, De Kalb, Douglas, Fannin, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Gordon, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Heard, Lumpkin, Murray, North Fulton, Paulding, Pickens, Polk, South Fulton, Towns, Troup, Union and White.

The advisory is roughly along the I-85 corridor northward. Parts of NW Georgia are not in the advisory since moisture may not even make it that far north.
