Ryan Lochte was on the Dancing with the Stars stage when an incident occurred while his dance was being critiqued.
The judge, Carrie Ann Inaba, was addressing Rochte and his partner, pro-dancer Cheryl Burke, when shouting could be heard in the background. The program showed a split screen of the judge and a re-play of the dance.
"Excuse me! Hey, back off!" Inaba said.
People could be seen rushing in front of Inaba, like security personnel. Inaba stopped talking.
The camera cuts to host Tom Bergeron with Lochte in the background, clearly shaken.
"Take a deep breath, we'll be right back," Bergeron said to the camera.
Buzzfeed writer Brandon Wall posted video of the ordeal from the DTWS broadcast on Twitter.
Reporter George Pennacchio tweeted a photo of two men who appeared to be detained. They wore T-shirts with the word "Lochte" crossed out.
“So many feelings are going through my head right now,” Lochte said in a 'DTWS' interview afterward, according to USA TODAY. “I’m a little hurt. I came out here and wanted to do something I am completely not comfortable with. I came out there with a big smile and have the best fan support here.”
