Marc is a lifelong Georgia boy, who is happy to be back home in the land of Varsity cheese dogs and the bulldogs. He enjoys traveling, water skiing on Lake Allatoona, and tearing through non-fiction books.
Marc was born and raised in Kennesaw, and graduated from North Cobb High School in 2005. He then followed a 100-year family tradition by graduating from Young Harris College and then the University of Georgia.
After studying football at UGA for several seasons, Marc graduated in late 2009 and was supposed to have to adjust to life in the real world. Instead, he enjoyed a two year semi-vacation by working as a reporter for WMBB (which stands for World's Most Beautiful Beaches) in Panama City, Florida. While there he covered the BP oil spill and the multi-million dollar lawsuit against Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis. He spent all of his weekends down there on the salt water or the white sand beaches.
In 2012, he was lucky enough to return to Atlanta with a job as a multi-media reporter at WXIA. He'll miss the beach and the clear roads but looks forward to adjusting to life in the south's biggest city.
He's also going to be adjusting to married life. Marc proposed to his fiancée Lauren Webster in front of 11Alive's cameras. If one 11 wasn't enough, it happened during his 11th Peachtree Road Race in a row, in 2011. They are engaged to be married on October 20th. During their engagement party, Marc's family dug up a home video from when he was around 10 years old, and he can be seen holding a fake microphone and saying, "This is Marc McAfee, with an 11Alive exclusive..."
He's looking forward to a few of those in the future, hopefully this time with a working microphone.
