Stores Gearing Up For Post-Christmas Sales

ATLANTA -- If you want it for Christmas and you haven't bought it yet, let's face it -- you're not going to make it.

But for those of you who are more deal-minded, there are some good deals to be had online from plenty of merchants who have already announced after Christmas and closeout sales.

Amazon.com sent out after-Christmas e-mail ads to their regular customers beginning Tuesday. Overstock.com has electronics liquidation and clearance sales that have kicked off. Target has a section on their web site touting a savings of 75 percent on select merchandise.

While Circuit City is closing its locations in Georgia, its Web site is offering up to 70 percent off on many items, and K-B Toys is pushing a 60 percent blowout through December 29 on their site. K-B Toys announced they are going out of business and would close all their locations. However, consumer watchdog blog The Consumerist warns that stores marking down items in advance of closing their doors may first be marking them up, so compare online before rushing out on Friday.

Many mainstream retailers, disappointed with sales during this Christmas season are pushing the notion of a second Black Friday on the day after Christmas, with many stores opening at 7 a.m. and having what amounts to doorbuster deals similar to what were seen on the day after Thanksgiving.

Flyers in Thursday newspapers will include ads from Sears, Toys R Us, Crate & Barrel and other retailers hoping to grab gift card buyers and value-seekers looking for great deals, and to try to bolster a dismal holiday sales season.
