Snake emerges from Fla. man's car hood during rush hour traffic

A Dunedin man got a shock when a snake crawled out from under his car hood while he was driving.

DUNEDIN, Fla. — A Florida man was driving down the highway Monday when he says a six-foot-long snake slithered out from under his car's hood.

Tim Mokwa grew up in Florida and has seen plenty of snakes, but he said even he was surprised when the reptile emerged right in front of his face.

“He just popped his little head up right over here,” Mokwa told WTSP-TV while pointing to the bottom of his windshield.

Mokwa said the snake slowly slithered across his car while he pulled off the highway and into a Walmart parking lot to shoot video.

“My windows were down, and he did almost get inside the window," Mokwa said.  "I rolled it up just in time.”

Mokwa said the snake disappeared as quickly as he appeared.

“He just kind of slithered his way back down in there," he said, adding that he hasn't seen the snake since.

He hopes the unwanted hitchhiker made his way out of the car and back into the woods.

“Hopefully he’s just out here in the bushes somewhere just living a new life,” he said.
