Join the Hero Army! 11Alive is kicking off our new Hero Central program with a summer canned food drive. Watch live video to the left, and scroll down a bit to learn more about the food drive and find out how you can help -- or, if you're in need, how you can get help.
  • Come to the Publix in Vinings -- 2451 Cumberland Parkway, Atlanta, 30339 (click HERE for a map) -- and drop off canned food for the Atlanta Community Food Bank to distribute.
  • All day, you'll be able to meet the 11Alive team, as well as local athletes like Atlanta Falcon Ovie Mughelli and former Braves player Brian Jordan.*
  • Go to any Metro Atlanta Publix on June 19 and donate cans in the Hero Central boxes you'll find there.

  • 12.6 percent of Georgia Households don't have access to enough food. (USDA)
  • The Atlanta Community Food Bank distributes to more than 800 nonprofit partners in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
  • Recipients of food from the Food Bank include working poor families, children, the elderly, disabled and mentally ill individuals, and battered women.
  • If you need help from the Food Bank, call 211, the United Way First Call for Help. Outside Metro Atlanta, call 404-614-1000.
