MT. JULIET, Tenn. — Boomer the horse is ok!
Crews safely rescued a horse that fell into a sinkhole near a gated ranch early Thursday.
The horse, Boomer, was sedated during the rescue and was sleeping comfortably soon afterward, according to Lt. James Copas with Wilson County Emergency Management Agency.
Workers tried to free the trapped animal for hours. A wrecking service used a harness to lift Boomer out of the hole.
The sinkhole appears to be on a sprawling piece of land surrounding a gated ranch. Media was not allowed on the property.
Crews had not determined how deep the sinkhole is, and it was unclear early in the rescue efforts how crews would get the horse out.
"It's kind of complicated," said WEMA dispatcher Adam Spears.
The horse hasn't been seriously injured, according to reports from the scene, but aerial video from WTVF showed it appeared to be standing up in the hole and shaking its tail before it was rescued.
