Electronics retailer Best Buy is lining up more rock-bottom "doorbuster" deals, especially on high-tech television sets as it makes a big play for the Black Friday shopping phenomenon.
The Minneapolis-based retailer disclosed its deals Friday in a 48-page newspaper circular, joining other major retailers like Dell and Costco, in what could become one of the hottest Thanksgiving shopping weekends yet. Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping periods of the year, a possible make-or-break when it comes to retailers hoping to rack up big fourth-quarter profits.
Following strong second quarter earnings which saw in-store sales increase slightly, the electronics giant is hoping its large amount of doorbusters and other Black Friday deals can keep the momentum through the crucial shopping season.
While it hopes to lure shoppers to its stores, Best Buy is making most of its deals available online.
Some of the biggest discounts appear to be coming to TV sets with the discounts set to take effect for different waves of shoppers over the weekend:
•Thanksgiving day. A 49-inch 4K set from Toshiba for $199.99 is one of the company's most notable Thursday "doorbusters" when doors open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving. The exact model TV wasn't specified. A similar model, which also includes built-in Chromecast support for streaming content, currently sells for $399.99 at Best Buy.
•Black Friday. On Friday morning after Thanksgiving, when its stores open at 8 a.m. around the country, Best Buy offers a 55-inch Sharp HD TV for $249.99.
•Online. Shoppers will find a 40-inch LG HD TV for $149.99, down from $279.99. A 55-inch Samsung 4K TV will be $479.99, a whopping $320 discount from its regular price.
The deals also extend to laptop computers. In stores Friday, there's also a Lenovo laptop for $99.99. Buyers, however, should be wary to check to make sure that heavily discounted computers being offered as "doorbusters" have enough computing power for them.
A 13.3 MacBook Air with 128GB of storage will be $800, $200 off, while an 11.6-inch Samsung Chromebook will be $139, $40 off, and a similarly sized Acer Chromebook will be $199.99, which is $50 off. There will also be a variety of more powerful Windows computers for under $500.
The retail giant will also be offering heavy discounts on video games. Popular games like NBA 2K17, FIFA 17, Madden 17,Battlefield 1 and Gears of War 4 will be priced at $29.99, about half off the regular price. Other popular titles such as Overwatch and Titanfall 2 will be $34.99, down $25.
Some good deals are available now. Among the most enticing is a 128GB Surface Pro 4 tablet with keyboard bundle for $599.99, a savings of close to $280. A pair of Bose SoundSport earbuds is $39.99, or $60 off.
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will both see $50 discounts, but its bundles are not as enticing as the ones at Costco or Dell where better games and additional wireless controllers are also included.
On the Apple front, Best Buy will be throwing in $250 gift cards for anyone buying an iPhone 7 on an installment plan, as well as taking $50 off the Apple Watch Series 1 to bring Apple's cheaper watch to $219 for the 38 millimeter watch. All 9.7-inch iPad Pros will be $125 off.
Those buying a Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge on an installment plan will also get a $250 gift card plus a Gear VR virtual reality headset.
The seemingly standard holiday deals are featured too, including Google's Chromecast for $25 and Amazon's Fire TV Stick for $29.99 and Amazon's Echo for $139.99, or $40 off.
Folks looking for better WiFi will find a three pack of the Eero WiFi router system for $399.99, or $100 off, or a bundle of a powerful Netgear router and WiFi extender for $179.99, or $70 savings.
As for those searching for deals on drones, DJI's Phantom 3 Standard will be $399.99, amounting to $100 off, and the new Phantom 4 will be $999.99, or $200 off.
