Local band to march in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

KENNESAW, Ga. -- On Sunday, band members from a Cobb County high school head off to the Big Apple for their moment in the spotlight.

Students from the Harrison High School marching band are heading up north to march in the 90th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this Thursday.

Chartered buses pulled away from the school in Kennesaw around 3 p.m. to make the roughly 14-hour, 890-mile trek up the east coast to New York City.

The 190-member band is slated to be the third to march in the parade line-up, which will be televised right here on 11Alive for an expected 3.5 million people.

According to Cobb County school officials, the Harrison marching band is one of only 12 in the nation chosen to participate in this year's parade. The band last performed in 2009.

You can catch the parade starting at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving day, right here on 11Alive!
