ATLANTA -- Officials say 20 Chihuahuas arrived at a local animal shelter on Monday after being rescued from a Troup County home.
LaGrange Animal Services found the dogs on Tuesday living in deplorable conditions. The agency needed help caring for them so it called the Atlanta Humane Society.
On Friday morning, staff members went to LaGrange and pick up the dogs.
“The animals were roaming free but they were walking in their own feces,” one shelter official said. “It just really wasn’t a great situation for the animals and it was really close to be a health concern,” Christina Hill with the Atlanta Humane Society said.
The owner of the house was ticketed for animal cruelty and neglect but was not arrested.
The adult Chihuahuas should be up for adoption soon but the puppies will need to spend five weeks in foster care first.
