BISHOP, Ga. -- Mother's Day meant a little something extra this year to a family in Oconee County.
That's because, two days after, one mother gave a beautiful gift to her daughter.
Kim Lewis donated a kidney to 17-year-old Sara, who has lived the last six years with an autoimmune disease that has attacked her kidneys.
"With her spirit, she never wanted to stop doing anything," mom Kim said. "She wanted to keep living her life, playing soccer; she just wouldn't slow down."
Through the past few weeks, Sara has needed multiple days of dialysis. But on this day, doctors brought Kim's kidney from Emory University Hospital over to an operating room at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Then they delivered it to Sara.
"Sara's my inspiration," said her mother. "Her courage gives me peace."
