VINE CITY, Ga. - OK, everybody knows Chick-fil-A may well be the state fast food of Georgia but was it worth it?

A hardy bunch of Chick-fil-A devotees stood in the sub-freezing temperatures Thursday morning in hopes of being among the first 100 guests at the Vine City restaurant to win Chick-fil-A for a year.

Elliot Holden was one of the 60 people who braved the below freezing temperatures to win the prize of free chicken.

“I’m out here because some friends of mine called me around 10 p.m. and convinced me to come out,” Holden said. “Not sure if I made the right decision or not but I’m here.”

While Holden said it might not have been worth standing in the almost 15-degree weather from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., he was already out there and determined to stick it out. He was smart enough to bring a space heater and blanket to help weather the snow.

Samarthya Bhatnagar was another brave soul who said he was just there to get the free 52 number ones.

“That’s pretty much the only reason I’m here,” Bhatnagar said through a scarf around his face.

They were joined by around 20 leaders from several Atlanta companies, organizations and government offices for the event. Its purpose was to show a citywide commitment to revitalizing the Westside Atlanta neighborhood.

But, now back to that free food...to be eligible, participants had to be in line Thursday at 6 a.m., be at least 18-years-old, U.S. residents, and live in several designated zip codes.

Congratulations to the winners! Enjoy your free food and enjoy thawing out!
