ATLANTA – Drivers in metro Atlanta rely on their favorite GPS app to get them around congestion, but is there one app that’s better than the others?

There are many choices, and most you can download to your smartphone for free.

11Alive’s Commuter Dude used WAZE while fellow reporter Liza Lucas relied on Apple Maps to get them through rush hour traffic on a drive from Cobb County into midtown Atlanta.

Almost immediately, their GPS apps lead them down different paths.

Commuter Dude traveled East Piedmont Road and Sewell Mill Road while Apple Maps took Liza down Sandy Plains Road and Scufflegrit Road.

While Commuter Dude avoided traffic until he reached I-75, Liza hit congestion on Cobb Parkway. She is enters the interstate at North Marietta Parkway while WAZE places Commuter Dude on I-75 a little further south.

WAZE gets Commuter Dude to the 11Alive studios a full five minutes ahead of Liza. His 23-mile trip took 47-minutes, while Apple Maps took Liza on a 24-mile journey that took 52-minutes.
