FITZGERALD, Ga. -- For more than 20 years, no arrests had been made in the murder of Bridgett Felicia Parker. That changed on Thursday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said that 49-year-old Octavious Alexander Rivera is charged with murder in connection to the 1996 death of Parker.

On May 19, 1996, Parker's body was discovered behind a vacant mobile home in Ben Hill County, Ga. by the property owner.

For years, investigators were unable to uncover any witnesses or evidence linked to the death.

In May 2016, advances in forensic technology led investigators to new leads and new evidence.

After interviewing witnesses in the Ben Hill County area, as well as Florida and Missouri, agents were able to get more information.

Rivera was taken into custody at the Tift County jail without incident. He'll be held there before being transported to Ben Hill County Jail for booking.

The investigation is still active, according to the GBI. Once it's complete, it will be turned over to teh Crisp Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
