ATLANTA -- A video of a car that nearly caused a major accident on the Perimeter at Bolton Road has gone viral, and underscores the dangers of totally reckless driving.

Late last Friday morning, a blue sedan stopped -- completely stopped cold -- in the second from the right lane of Interstate 285 northbound at Bolton Road, having gone too far to get off at the exit ramp.

Several cars passed by in the right lane at full speed, and a tractor-trailer was barreling up behind the car, also running at full speed. In the right lane, another tractor-trailer was rolling northbound at full speed. That truck had its camera rolling, capturing the scene.

Incredibly, the car made a hard right turn and began to slowly turn across the right lane of traffic to get to the Bolton Road exit.

11Alive's Traffic Tracker Crash Clark just shook his head as he watched the video.

"In front of not just one, but two big rigs, counting the one with the camera," Clark said. "Just because he couldn't go one more exit and double back?"

The truck in the second lane was able to move over at the last minute, while the truck in the far right lane slammed on its brakes, narrowly missing the car as it cleared the right lane -- just before the truck reached it.

No injuries were reported, but things could have been much worse.

Clark pointed out that motorists should never do anything like this. If you miss your exit, take the time to go to the next exit.
