CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- Deputies in Bartow County have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the April 2017 death of an 11-week-old infant.

Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap says deputies responded to a home on Cedar Creek Road on April 24, 2017, in response to reports of an infant in cardiac arrest. The baby was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment but died four days later.

An autopsy by the GBI Medical Examiner's office determined the child died as the result of a homicide, due to craniocerebral trauma, or head trauma.

Warrants were filed against the infant's father, Jerry Wayne Bagley, Jr. for first-degree murder and cruelty to children based on their investigation and the autopsy findings.

Bagley was taken into custody early Sunday morning and is being held at the Bartow County Jail awaiting a Superior Court bond hearing.
