Dad takes medical marijuana fight to next level

Georgia parents continue to struggle to find legal access to medical marijuana so one metro Atlanta father is taking his fight to the next level.

Georgia parents continue to struggle to find legal access to medical marijuana for their children.

A fight to grow it in the state didn’t go their way this legislative session, but that’s not stopping one LaGrange father.

He’s taking his fight a step further.

Dale Jackson is no longer just fighting for a cause, he’s investing in it.

He’s working with a grower out west, crafting cannabis oil not only for his son, but potentially all the kids in Georgia who need it.

A tiny little bottle of oil brings emotions out of Dale Jackson he can only hope his son will someday feel.

“As a parent to be able to feel like you’ve connected in a way with your child that you’ve waited eight years to do, there’s no way to put words to that feeling,” said Dale Jackson.

Jackson has been illegally giving his eight-year-old Autistic son Colin cannabis oil for the last few months.

“I feel like I’m able to connect with him in a way and I can tell him things like Colin it’s time to go eat and he gets up and walks to the kitchen table.”

Jackson fought this legislative session for a bill that would have made it legal for not only use but to get medical marijuana in Georgia.

The state still allows for a small list of patients to use cannabis oil, but they cannot buy it here, and Autism is not on that list.

“We’re no longer willing to just sit by and take whatever we can get.”

Instead Jackson is investing his time and money out west.

He’s working with a grower, and so far they’ve created “Colin’s Voice” a type of cannabis oil specifically geared toward Colin’s needs.

Two other types of cannabis oil are in production, and this grower could potentially be a direct source for families in Georgia.

“We’re going after what is the best medicine and the best treatment for all of our children.”

Jackson and a few other parents are planning for the 2017 legislative session where they eventually hope a bill legalizing the cultivation of medical marijuana in Georgia will pass.
