PORTERDALE, Ga. — The family of a man whose body was found submerged in the Yellow River wants answers.
The body of Ryan Hacker, 40, of Porterdale, GA, was found on Sunday, Nov. 12, around 2:30 p.m. near the river's dam.
His cousin Kasi shared a photo of him smiling with his two children. She said his body was cremated on Friday and now the family is preparing funeral arrangements.
But what caused Hacker's death is still a mystery, or will be for at least another 90 days. That's the length of time it will take for the toxicologic and histologic examinations to be completed, according to the GBI. The autopsy report that was completed found there were no injuries to Hacker's body.
On November 3, around 10:30 p.m., police said Hacker was stopped by Officer Matthew Munger and was found to be driving on a suspended license. During the incident, police said Hacker refused to comply with the officer’s commands, so the officer deployed his stun gun.
However, Hacker was able to get away, and police said he ran from the scene in the direction of the Yellow River.
Nine days later, his body was found.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Porterdale Police Department with the investigation. When the case is complete, it will be turned over to the Alcovy Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office.
