MEMPHIS, Tn. - Terence Lester made it to Memphis in time to be part of history.
Lester set out on his 386-mile journey on foot March 3, leaving downtown Atlanta with plans to reaching the Lorraine Motel by April 4.
For Lester, executive director of the nonprofit Love Beyond Walls, the mission was two-fold: to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and take a stand against poverty.
The journey was not without its trials, Lester posting the emotional and physical endurance needed to complete his mission.
Yet, he persevered as those he met on the journey propelled him forward.
"Just met this lady standing on the corner begging for money with everything she owns in a bag. We need more resources for women and children," Lester posted to Love Beyond Walls' Facebook. "Broke my heart. She’s why I’m walking and refuse to stop advocating."
"God carried me through! Excited to be a part of history," Lester said.
Lester ultimately making his deadline, arriving in Memphis to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.
