Couple escapes large house fire thanks to smoke alarms

This is the second fire this morning that Gwinnett Fire has dealt with.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Gwinnett Fire is working a house fire located on the 3000 block of Chandon Lane, NW at 3.32 a.m. on Thursday.

According to Captain Tommy Rutledge, the two-story home home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. So far, no injuries have been reported.

There was a couple inside the home at the time but were able to escape the fire unharmed because of their smoke alarm.

Fire Engineer Justin Wilson wants to remind residents how important it is to check your smoke alarms inside of your homes,

"We could be dealing with a much different situation right now."

There was a partial roof collapse as well as heavy damage to the right side of the home.

"Crews worked in the bitter cold to control the fire as water from the fire hoses froze on the sidewalk and street in front of the house. All fire crews are doing good and are continuing to operate at the incident."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.

This is the second fire this morning that Gwinnett Fire has dealt with.

The first fire happen on the 4300 block of Sardis Church Road in Buford, Ga at a one-story home but no injuries were reported.
