DA: Gunman told victims, 'It's not personal, it's business' before pulling trigger

The female victim, who was in the early stages of pregnancy at the time, lost her baby as a result of the shooting.

A man and woman accused of kidnapping and shooting two people have been sentenced to life in prison.

According to the Cobb County D.A., Desire Nichole Collins, 22, and Jermaine Dawayne Henderson, 36, were in the Atlanta area to sell dozens of pounds of marijuana.

A childhood friend of Henderson's put them in touch with a Marietta barber who helped arrange to sell the marijuana in Buckhead on Jan. 26, 2016.

The buyer paid with counterfeit currency, according to the district attorney.

Once Henderson realized what had happened, he allegedly grew angry with the barber, as well as the barber's pregnant girlfriend, who had been driving them around in a Toyota Camry during the incident.

Henderson, also nicknamed 'Evil', allegedly ordered that the car he was being driven around in be parked at a business park on Windy Ridge Parkway near a Doubletree Hotel.

He ordered both the barber and the girlfriend out of the car and backed them up to a ridge and told them, "It's not personal, it's business," then shot the barber twice and the girlfriend once, prosecutors said.

Both victims fell down the ridge and the shooter drove off.

The defendant then drove to a gas station where he purchased gas that he put into a plastic bottle. He then proceeded to drive the car to 350 Franklin Road in Marietta where they set fire to the vehicle and fled for Ohio the next morning.

The two victims were still alive and made their way to the Doubletree Hotel where they called for help. The female victim, who was in the early stages of pregnancy at the time, lost her baby as a result of the shooting.

"This absolutely was personal," said ADA Shep Orlow, who tried the case with ADA Rachel Hines. "Shooting two people at a point-blank range, intending to kill them? It doesn't get any more personal than that."

A Cobb jury deliberated for several hours before returning with a guilty verdict. Both defendants were convicted of all counts including four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery, hijacking a motor vehicle, two counts of kidnapping with bodily injury, second-degree arson and tampering with evidence.

Collins was sentenced to life in prison and may be considered for parole after serving 30 years. Henderson was sentenced to life without parole plus 120 years to serve.
