DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - After a series of shootings that left two people injured and one man dead, family and friends remember the father, friend and husband-to-be that they lost.
On Thursday morning at 3:45 a.m., Nicholas Bankston, 24, was driving back home with his family after celebrating his birthday when a random vehicle pulled up next to his car and started shooting.
Bankston was unfortunately hit and died at the scene. Family has started a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of funeral expenses.
In the car was his pregnant fiancé, a younger sister and his children. Thankfully, they were not physically injured.
Family and friends gathered outside where the incident happened, to remember their family member, affectionately nicknamed, Nicc.
"He’s a wonderful father. Good man. Everybody loves him. Very respectful. He was a ‘yes ma’am’, ‘no ma’am’-type of young man. Thank you, all the police officers and investigators,” Bankston’s aunt said.
A candlelight vigil was held on Thursday night, Feb. 22, to remember Bankston and celebrate his birthday. Family members and friends and members of the community were in attendance.
