'It's a tragic incident' | 3-year-old killed after suspect shoots into car

Police are searching for a possibly newer model gray Dodge Charger.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A three-year-old was shot and killed when a suspect shot into a car late Sunday night.

At 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, police responded to a person shot called on Bouldercrest Road and Ceclia Drive.

According to police, a woman was driving on Eastland Road near Atlanta when a possible newer gray Dodge Charger pulled up next to the woman's moving car.

She was driving with her son in the backseat.

Police say she then saw the person in the Charger pull out what she thought was a paintball gun but then heard a real gunshot.

She didn't think anything of it and continued to drive away but she soon realized her son was unresponsive in the backseat.

She pulled over and saw that her child had been shot.

"It's a tragic incident," said Chief of Police James Conroy.

The child was transported to the hospital where he later died.

No word on whether or not this was a targeted shooting has been released and this incident is still under investigation.

Police are searching for a gray Dodge Charger, possibly a newer model, with a drive-out tag. There were multiple people inside the vehicle according to police.

If you or anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to please call DeKalb Police at 404-724-7850 or call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
