Officer-involved shooting under investigation in Jonesboro

The GBI has been requested to assist with the investigation.

JONESBORO, Ga. - A man was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot by police Thursday morning.

According to Clayton County PD's PIO, the shooting happened at around 5:34 a.m. near the Motel 6 hotel located at 628 Southside Commercial Pkwy.

Police received a call of a suspicious person who was behind the hotel. When the officer arrived, he located a person matching the description of the suspicious person. The officer and the man began to talk, then police said the man started to run away.

The officer ran after him. Police said as the man ran around a corner of a nearby business, he reached into the front of his waistband and that's when the officer fired a shot hitting the man once in the foot. The man kept running, but was eventually caught.

The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Timothy Ruthledge.

The GBI has been requested to assist with the investigation. There were no officers hurt during this incident.
