Officials confirm 6-year-old girl dies in Douglas County fire

First responders transported the four survivors to the hospital. While their current conditions are unknown, they are expected to survive.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Officials say a 6-year-old girl died in a Thursday afternoon house fire near the Lithia Springs area.

According to Douglas County Fire officials, firefighters were called to the home in the 6100 block of North Sweetwater Road around 1:30 p.m.

When crews got there, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the single-family home.

Officials said two adults and two children were able to make it out of the home, but the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner confirms the 6-year-old did not.

First responders transported the four survivors to the hospital. While their current conditions are unknown, they are expected to survive.

11Alive's crew from the scene said it appears the house had aluminum siding, a building material that burns relatively quickly.

Investigators saw nothing suspicious and Douglas County Fire and Sheriff's officials, as well as state fire marshals, are now investigating to determine the source of the fire.

Photos from the scene of the fire show the house completely burned and charred.

"Any time you have injuries and based on the circumstances, it's traumatic," he said.
