Police: Man surrenders money, gets shot in lower back during robbery

Police say the victim was in stable condition when he was transported to the hospital.

ATLANTA — Police are searching for a shooter after a man was robbed and shot in the back at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday night.

According to police, the victim was walking at the intersection of Cascade Avenue and Olympian Way in Southwest Atlanta when a young black man approached him.

The suspect was toting a gun and demanded money from the victim. The pair got into a tussle, and the victim said the suspect was able to grab $130 from his front pocket.

At that point, the victim took off running up Olympian Way, but the suspect shot him in the lower back.

Police responded and transported the victim to Grady alert, conscious and breathing. But it was there that police discovered the victim, Jeffery Foster, was also wanted out of Kennesaw for a probation violation. Investigators said they also discovered 16 small baggies and 2 medium sized rocks of suspected crack cocaine and a crack pipe in Foster's pocket.

Meanwhile, police are still searching for the suspect involved in the armed robbery and shooting. He was last seen wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans, according to police.
