Fairburn resident Ashley Andrews says she had been watching the storms approach metro Atlanta on television all day long. She says she prepared for the storms.
"I had been watching this storm coming all day, so I figured it was going to get really bad, so we made preparations -- I had gotten my daughter's mattress, and we had set up in the bathroom," she said. "So when the hail came, I got her, and we went to the bathroom, we got the mattress and put it on top of our heads."
She said that she and her daughter could hear the noise from the storm outside.
"That's when we could hear this roaring sound -- it kind of sounded like a train. It shook the whole house, and it pushed it back," Andrews said. "It was so scary. It busted every window, it trashed everything. Water damage, leaky ceilings, you name it. Everything is ruined, we have nothing."
11Alive's Jerry Carnes said, "Yet, when I came up here, you had a smile."
Andrews smiled.
"Because I'm blessed," she said. "It could have been worse. I could have been in there, and I'm responsive. God has a plan for me. So, I'm really excited about living my life to the fullest, now."
