Primrose preps for holiday Can-A-Thon

Students at Primrose School of Sprayberry have worked hard in anticipation of the 35th annual Can-A-Thon.

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Students at Primrose School of Sprayberry have worked hard in anticipation of the 35th annual Can-A-Thon.

The school has worked with students and families since November gearing up for the annual holiday fundraiser. Students have done chores at home to earn money, not for themselves, but to buy food for families in need.

"They get a chance to understand the importance of giving back to the community without expecting anything in return,” said Francie Towey.

Towey owns the Primrose School locations at Sprayberry and Macland Pointe, where students have already collected more than 1200 items for families and seniors who need some extra help.

For years Primrose students in the metro have joined in the 11Alive Canathon -- some taking trips to local stores to pick out their own items to give, and they know why they're doing it too.

It’s teaching them a valuable lesson that Towey says goes beyond what the know to who they become.
