Kaushal Amin, Duluth High School. A compassionate young man, Kaushal is actively involved with The Foster Children's Foundation and was the recipient of its 2004 Volunteer of the Year Award. Through his vision, the foundation created a junior executive committee comprised of high school students who initiate and organize fundraisers. Kaushal spearheaded many successful projects, including a clothing drive, which collected 500 winter coats for foster children. His compassion for others crossed international boundaries when he assisted in collecting over 150 boxes of food and clothing for the victims of the tsunami disaster in South Asia. Kaushal is also active in sports and academics and was accepted to Emory University.
Elizabeth Rossman, Parkview High School. Elizabeth loves horses and is a dedicated equestrian. As Vice President of the 4-H Club, Elizabeth volunteered many years with the Newton County Special Olympic Equestrian Team. On a weekly basis she works with junior teams teaching new material and traveling to competitions. Elizabeth is eager to help others and also volunteers for the Girl Scout Day camps every summer. She completed the Senior Community Service Gold Bar Award which requires many hours of service. A gifted artist, Elizabeth created a rendering of her school's mascot which was displayed on student body t-shirts.
Mary Alexander Myers, Trion High School. Despite living in a small town, Mary has a strong desire to reach out and learn about others. She founded and taught an English as a Second Language class for Hispanics in her community. Mary also serves on the Board of Directors for The Historical Society. Her desire to help inspire other young women led her to create a peer-mentoring program called "WINGS" (Women Influencing a New Generation of Students). In addition to all her volunteer activities, Mary still managed to maintain an impressive 4.0 GPA and enrolled in college level courses while still in high school.
Jamie Antin, North Springs High School. Jamie has a passion for children. The organization she founded called Spirit Senders successfully created a holiday party for underprivileged children that has become an annual event. For several years Jamie also tutored children at the YMCA's after school program. Young people are not the only ones to benefit from Jamie's volunteerism. Each month she coordinates a talent show to entertain clients at the William Brennan Nursing Home. In addition Northside Hospital presented her with the "Service Excellence Recognition Award" for volunteering more than 570 hours as a candy striper.
Rebecca Miolen, Newnan High School. Rebecca volunteered nearly 700 hours over three years. She is dedicated to improving the environment and has donated much of her time to cleaning up rivers and streams, and organizing recycle projects. She also likes helping youth and has tutored at risk youth on a weekly basis; coordinated a Kids Safety Fair, and collected school supplies for the Department of Family and Children's Services. Rebecca has been recognized for many of her contributions to the community. A highlight of her volunteer career came when she was personally presented the Presidential Environmental Youth Award by President George W. Bush.
