State Sen. Vincent Fort kicked off his mayoral campaign on Saturday with an official opening of his campaign headquarters on Campbellton Road.
In a new 11Alive poll released last week, Fort placed fifth in a crowded field of mayoral hopefuls who are vying to succeed incumbent Kasim Reed, who cannot run for reelection.
City councilwoman at large Mary Norwood came in with a commanding 27% of likely voters. City Council President Ceasar Mitchell came in a distant second, at 10%.
Keisha Lance Bottoms and Kwanza Hall, both members of the city council, came in at 9%, followed by Fort at 8%.
Fort raised $129,823 this past quarter, and has raised $378,286 overall, with $230,908 in cash on hand.
