Visitors and residents are invited to participate in the illumination of Morgan Falls and the Chattahoochee River with whimsical and beautifully-lit lanterns.

“Taking our imaginations to the river is what I think about when dreaming up new feature lanterns for the parade. It is such fun to make the fantastical real for an evening. I think of the collection of river lanterns as a family of magical creatures that visit us one night a year in this one special place,” said Parade Producer Chantelle Rytter.

Sandy Springs will light up the night and the water during the  3rd Annual Lantern Parade  on Saturday, April 21.

Attendees are asked to gather at the Steel Canyon Golf Club starting at 7:30 p.m.

The parade will begin at 8:00 p.m. down an easy path along Morgan Falls Road to Morgan Falls Overlook Park.

As the parade arrives at the park around 8:45 p.m., paddlers from High Country Outfitters will take to the river with the floating lanterns.

Guests can enjoy a one-of-a-kind riverfront display, along with live performances and tasty treats to make it a night to remember.

More than 2,500 participants attended in 2016, 3,000 attended in 2017.

New lanterns, including long-legged coastal herons, will be added to the river portion of the event to make the night even brighter.

Parade workshops will be open to the public on April 14 and April 15 at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church on Morgan Falls Road. You can choose from the following creations:

  • Great Blue Herons: These large, solitary, and stoic birds are a familiar sight at the river and a favorite of the parade.
  • Dragonflies: Associated with joy, agility, and lightness of being, these fanciful creatures are attributes worthy of magical enlargement!
  • Sandy: The iconic big mother turtle, named for Sandy Springs, leads her baby lantern hatchlings to the river.
  • Spotted Georgia Kissyfish: Have you ever been floating in the water while in a Georgia lake, all relaxed and then felt fish lips touch you? Almost like a nibble. It’s just a Kissyfish.

Parking on the 21st will be available at the following locations:

  • Old WorldPay building – 600 Morgan Falls Road, Suite 260
  • North Springs United Methodist Church – 7770 Roswell Road
