CUMBERLAND, Ga. -- Atlanta Braves shortstop Johan Camargo hyperextended his knee prior to the team's game against the Philadelphia Phillies at SunTrust Park on Tuesday.

Camargo was running out to the field before first pitch and began to hop over the first base line and reach for the dirt, which is pretty typical for superstitious players.

Camargo jumped over the line, and when he came back down, he tripped over the tip of his feet and fell to the ground, holding his right knee. First baseman Freddie Freeman could be seen watching Camargo's fall, and when he realized he was hurt, signaled to the dugout that Camargo needed help.

Camargo was helped off the field. The team announced shortly after that he would undergo an MRI.

After the game, manager Brian Snitker said he feared the worst after someone said they may have heard something pop, but that the results were optimistic. There was no structural damage found, just a bruised bone. Camargo will still likely be out about two weeks and be placed on the DL.

"I hate it for him because he’s a hard working kid," Snitker said. "He’s doing really well. It’s been really great experience for him. Played as good at shortstop as you can."

The rookie shortstop has left many impressed with his performance this season, and he even took over the starting job from fan favorite Dansby Swanson. He's hitting .327 this season with 19 RBIs and three home runs. He's played 63 games this season for the Braves, with the other time this season spent in Triple-A Gwinnett.

Fox Sports' Kelsey Wingert reported on Twitter that Swanson was removed from Gwinnett's game on Tuesday after Camargo's injury, which likely suggests he will be called back up with the team.

Snitker wouldn't confirm the move after the game, but said Swanson getting moved up would be the likely move.
