FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Now that the NFL Preseason is complete, the Falcons must trim their roster down to 53 men.

The deadline is Saturday by 4 p.m.

The Falcons cut 14 players on Friday, and there were no big surprises.

Fourth-string quarterback Alek Torgersen was cut, leaving three quarterbacks on the roster for now. Torgersen completed eight passes in the preseason for 96 yards and no touchdowns.

Another interesting cut was Mike Meyer, who some though may be beginning to threaten long-time kicker Matt Bryant's job after the first preseason game when he kicked a 50-plus yard field goal. Those discussions, however, quickly died down. Meyer missed a 57-yard field goal attempt in the team's 13-7 preseason loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday.

D.J. Tialavea was cut after making the switch to the offensive line. He moved from the tight-end position where there is plenty of depth, but he and three other lineman were cut.

Finally, word came out earlier in the day that Akeem King was waived, the Falcons' 7th round draft pick in 2015. King had an interception against Pittsburgh, but on Thursday Dede Westbrook had a touchdown catch against him.
