Football championship weekend is more than just the game

Here's a full schedule of what's happening during the weekend prior to the game.

While the Georgia Bulldogs are getting ready to take the field in Monday's Rose Bowl for a berth in the national college football championship game, Atlanta is getting ready for the biggest college football game in its history.

The National College Football Championship Game set for Monday, Jan. 8, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Here's a full schedule of what's happening during the weekend prior to the game, from Saturday, Jan. 6 through Monday, Jan. 8:

Championship Campus

  • Playoff fan central
  • Georgia World Congress Center Building A
  • Saturday, Jan. 6 through Monday, Jan. 8
  • Playoff fan Central will give fans the opportunity to be part of championship week. The three-day, family friendly event features games, youth sports clinics, pep rallies and exhibits celebrating college football and its history, as well as sponsor activities, special guest appearances and autograph signings.

AT&T Playoff Playlist Live!

  • Saturday, Jan. 6 through Monday, Jan. 8
  • Championship Tailgate Plaza
  • International Plaza
  • Outdoor experience including fan activities, games and entertainment, as well as ziplining and sponsor activities.

Media Day

  • Saturday, Jan. 6
  • Philips Arena
  • Featuring coaches and players from the two teams. Fans will receive handheld radios with the ability to tune into select stations to hear commentary from the interviews. A free event, Media Day also features live ESPN broadcasts.

Extra Yard 5K

  • Sunday, Jan. 7
  • Downtown
  • A family friendly, 3.1-mile race hosted in conjunction with championship weekend, the Extra Yard 5K will include live entertainment, sponsor activities and more. The top overall male and female finishers will win two tickets to the game. Registration includes one ticket to Playoff Fan Central, a participant shirt and finisher's medal.

Taste of the Championship

  • Georgia Aquarium
  • Sunday, Jan. 7
  • A premium event on the eve of the national championship game, the Taste of the Championship is hosted by the CFP Foundation as a fundraising event for the Extra Yard for Teachers initiative. Attendees will be offered samplings of food and beverage from the local areas, regions of the New Year's six bowl games, and the communities of the two teams in the game.
