Nick Goepper saved his best run for last to clinch the silver medal in the men's slopestyle on Sunday.
Goepper put together several strong runs to qualify for the gold medal final at the Phoenix Snow Park in PyeongChang. On his final run, he was technically strong on the rails. He soared through the air on his final two jumps, the latter being a triple-cork 1440.
He finished with a score of 93.60.
"I was just visualizing this moment the last 72 hours over and over again," Goepper told NBC after his race. "To be able to put it down when the pressure is on and come away with a different color this time, that's what I came here to do."
It's the second Olympic medal for Goepper, 23, who won a bronze medal in Sochi. The United States swept the men's slopestyle podium in 2014. They were unable to repeat the sweep.
American Gus Kenworthy made it to the finals, but he stumbled on his penultimate jump and didn't attempt the last one. He finished in 12th. Kenworthy was competing with a broken thump and a hematoma on his hip.
Goepper returns to the podium after a tough four years that included him struggling with depression.
He has battled through it, and he was the first skier to qualify for the U.S. Olympic men's slopestyle team. Now he's got another Olympic medal to show for it all.
Oystein Braaten of Norway won gold and Alex Beaulieu-Marchand of Canada took bronze.
