We wanted to try alpine skiing...until we saw some of these crashes.

Giant slalom is not for the faint of heart.

We all realized that pretty quickly after some disastrous crashes during the men's first run.

The first to crash was Manuel Feller from Austria. Feller crashed right at the finish line in the men's giant slalom on Saturday. He hit the gate and lost control. Fortunately, he slid right across the finish line. Unfortunately, he slid right into the wall and was disqualified. Feller was holding his left wrist after the crash.

It was a major disappointment for Feller. He was on pace to take the lead before the crash.

A couple racers latter, Italian skier Luca De Aliprandini had a nasty spill at the same gate and crashed hard into the fence along the course. The collision caused him to lose one of his skies. The medical team went out to meet him, but he was eventually able to get up and ski off the course on his own.

NBC later reported he suffered a bone bruise, but was generally okay.
