ATLANTA -- After a long battle, Georgia Tech announced its starting quarterback just before kicking off with the Tennessee Volunteers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Yellow Jackets head coach Paul Johnson announced on the team's pregame show that junior TaQuon Marshall will lead the triple-offense on Monday.

Marshall beat out last year's backup Matthew Jordan. Jordan had a foot injury in spring that provided Marshall with an opportunity to step-up. Jordan played in eight games last season, and he had six rushing touchdowns and one through the air.

Marshall, Jordan, Lucas Johnson and Jay Jones were all battling for the starting job throughout the spring. Johnson said he wasn't willing to tip-off the Vols on who would be starting. The Jackets are replacing long-time quarterback Justin Thomas who graduated after last season.

Marshall appeared in two games for the Jackets last season. He had two running attempts for 11 yards and a touchdown.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound junior is from Hamilton, Ga. and graduated from Harris County High School.
