More than 101,000 Atlantans spend more than 90 minutes getting to and from work each day, making the city the 9th largest home for so-called “super commuters” in the nation.

According to a study by Apartment List, super commuting is highest in expensive metro areas with strong economies, such as Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, Washington DC, and Los Angeles, and their surrounding areas.

Long commutes have become more common over the past decade. In 2005, there were more than 3 million super commuters, which was 2.4 percent of all commuters. By 2016, that share had increased by almost 16 percent to 2.8 percent of all commuters, or about 4 million workers.

Here are the nation’s top 10 cities in terms of the percentage of super commuters to overall commuters, and the actual number of super commuters:

  2. Modesto, CA. 7.3 percent. 15,335
  3. Riverside, CA. 7.3 percent. 127,156
  4. New York. 6.7 percent. 616,789
  5. Bridgeport, CT. 6.1 percent. 27,082.
  6. San Francisco. 4.8 percent. 104,480
  7. Washington, DC. 4.6 percent. 138,290
  8. Allentown, PA. 4.1 percent. 15,756
  9. ATLANTA. 3.9 percent. 101,796
  10. Los Angeles. 3.8 percent. 227,009
