Fairburn tornado victims: 'We’ve still got our memories.'

Alicia Lowery has countless memories insider her mother’s home on Jumpers Trail in South Fulton.

“I’ve been here since I was 14," Lowery said Tuesday, just hours after a tornado ripped through her neighborhood Monday night. "It’s sad to see your childhood house like this.”

She was one of many residents whose home was damaged in Monday night storms that spawned an EF-2 tornado in nearby Fairburn, Georgia. Part of Lowrey's roof was ripped off and nearly every window was shattered.

“I never thought this would happen,” Lowery said. “Not just to my house, but to everybody’s house.”

11Alive's Ryan Kruger went to the community, where it didn’t appear a single house on Jumpers Trail was spared destruction. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

“Our roof is going to be replaced, and a window was blown out, just minor damages when compared to other people,” said neighbor Anna Sylvester.

Many of Sylvester’s neighbors will end up losing their homes as a result.

The Red Cross gave food and shelter to many of the displaced neighbors. Repair crews have already told Lowery it could take weeks before the house is livable.

“I’m glad it didn’t burn down. We’ve still got our memories. We just have to fix it up,” Lowery said.

Fulton County Commission Chairman Robert Pitts ordered extra security in the neighborhood to keep crooks from taking advantage of victims.
