A study by VISA found the average high school student spends more than $1000 on prom expenses.
Here are some ways to bring those costs down significantly.
Dresses are on sale at Macy's,JC Penney and David's Bridalwith a large selection priced at under $100. Girls who want to wear an expensive designer dress also have the option of renting one on RentTheRunway.com.
Instead of hiring a limosine and driver, promgoers may want to use the popular smart phone app Uber, which connects private drivers and those needing rides. Uber can often be far less expensiver than limos or taxis.
Fancy Dinners can also add to prom expenses. Several local restaurants have special menus that make dinner more affordable. Ruth's Chris Steak House and Veni Vidi Vici both have three course specials for $42 per person. The Imperial Fez has a three course special for $35.
Those who can't afford a prom gown may also qualify for a free one from The Enchanted Closet. The nonprofit is holding a prom dress giveaway on March 29th at Georgia State University's Rialto Center for the Arts from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Those who need a dress need to register at EnchantedCloset.org. The Rialto Center is located at 80 Forsyth St. NW, Atlanta.
