'Amityville Horror' house sold

The infamous 1927 Dutch Colonial on Amityville's Ocean Avenue, from the "Amityville Horror' movie went into contract this week. The home came on the market in June for $850,000. USA TODAY

The home that inspired the Amityville Horror series has been sold.

The beautiful and extensively remodeled 5,000-square-foot home with five bedrooms and three baths on the water in Long Island fetched nearly $850,000. That was down from the $1.15 million dollar asking price just a few years earlier.

The home is the location of the gruesome DeFeo murders where Ronald DeFeo got up in the middle of the night and brutally murdered his parents and four siblings with a rifle while they slept.

The home was occupied just a year later by the Lutz family, until they were forced to leave because of rampant paranormal activity.
