Cobb County, GA -- Family members and friends will gather Monday to remember a Cobb County teenager killed in a crash.
16-year-old Garrett Reed died when he crashed his car around 12:30a.m. Saturday. It happened on Midway Road in Marietta, near the intersection with Sylvia Drive. Police say speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors. They're looking into what both Reed and the other driver involved were doing before the crash.
Police say Reed was driving a black 1994 Lexus northbound when he lost control and crossed into the southbound lane, hitting a white 2003 Mazda-6. Reed died at the scene.
Police say 25-year-old Richard Reyes of Dallas, Georgia was driving the Mazda. He was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
The viewing for Garrett Reed is Monday at West Cobb Funeral Home in Marietta from 6:00pm - 9:00pm.
The funeral is Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Powder Springs at 2:00pm. A graveside service is directly following at Kennesaw Memorial Gardens.
Friends say Reed "was a great kid" who loved life and football.
His cousin, Lori Grice, posted a blog saying, "He was a rising senior and a great athlete. He was very handsome, well mannered and very smart. He was an ALL AMERICAN teenager."
Reed was a football player at Harrison High School. His parents, Sarah and Neal, asked that, in lieu of flowers, all donations be made to the Harrison Hoya Football Booster Club. You can make a donation or get more information on the club by clicking here.
