ATLANTA (AP) -- A Fulton County jury has convicted a 49-year-old man of strangling a woman and leaving her nude body in a vacant lot in Atlanta.
Michael Harvey was convicted of murder on Monday more than 15 years after prosecutors say he raped and strangled 39-year-old Valerie Payton. Her nude body was found in southeast Atlanta in 1994 next to a note that read: "I'm back Atlanta, Mr. X."
The jury also found Harvey guilty of aggravated assault and aggravated sodomy.
Prosecutors say the case was unsolved for more than a decade until DNA evidence linked Harvey to the crime in 2005.
