STONE MOUNTAIN, GA -- A 16-year-old boy was shot after a fight near Redan High School Friday afternoon.
DeKalb County police officer Jason Gagnon says that a fight that started on school grounds then moved to a nearby side street.
Gagnon says that a school resource officer, trying to break up the fight, heard a gunshot. He says a 16-year-old male, who was not a Redan High student, was seen holding a gun and firing several times.
According to DeKalb County Schools spokesman Walter Woods, the teen was shot at least once by the resource officer after the male pointed his gun at the officer. Woods said the teen was a student at the DeKalb Alternative School.
He was shot in the arm and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Downtown Atlanta, where he was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Gagnon says the incident only involved school resource officers, and did not involve DeKalb County police officers. He said County detectives are assisting with the investigation.
